I remember when dryrobes became a thing – and now dryrobe is basically a verb, for describing a changing robe. I bought my dryrobe during 25 hours of racing at Red Bull Timelaps in 2019. The weather was biblical, I was cold and wet and dropping ~£150 seemed feasible in return for comfort, warmth and happiness.
And it was.
But these days, there are plenty of alternatives to dryrobe, at various price points to suit all budgets. I’ve got plenty of wear out of mine at cyclocross races, out on walks and generally running around during colder months. If you’re an open water swimmer, or plan on trying your hand at surfing… those are yet more good uses for your dryrobe or dryrobe alternative.
They’re perfect for all sorts of outdoor activities.
Along with my dryrobe changing robe, I’ve also tried a dryrobe alternative – the Bluefin Heatwave Change Robe so rounded up some other options if you’re looking for a waterproof changing robe.
Bluefin Heatwave Changing Robe – £££

Bluefin are a well established SUP (stand up paddleboard) brand and their SUP Heatwave multifunctional changing robe is actually pretty epic. The quality is great with a 100% recycled outer nylon shell and a 60% recycled high-density sherpa fleece lining.
I’m wearing a SMALL which works perfectly as a coat, but I think I could also size up to give myself some extra space as a changing robe. Although the hood looks small, it actually does fit over my hair so that’s a win!
Features:
- ✅ sherpa fleece lining
- ✅ hood
- ✅ waterproof and windproof
- ✅ inside pocket and outer pockets
- ✅ 2 way zip
- ✅ full length sleeves
